Garak Wholesale Market has distributed more than 50 percent of the agricultural and fishery distribution in the Seoul metropolitan area for about 40 years, and its facilities are outdated and have limitations in adapting to the new distribution system. We thought we needed to define a new wholesale market.Agricultural and fishery products themselves are living organisms, but the ‘wholesale’ transaction itself is large and complex at a limit that humans can vary in size, and it is like a living organism. Therefore, the Market Architecture it will contain should act as a more variable and organic ‘bowl’. Wholesale market construction is a ‘bowl’ that eventually captures a living trading ecosystem.

도매시장 건축의 특수성

가락도매시장은 약 40여 년간 수도권 농수산 유통의 50퍼센트 이상을 유통하면서, 그 시설은 낙후되었고, 새로운 유통시스템에 적응하지 못하는 한계점을 지니고 있습니다. 우리는 새로운 도매시장에 대한 정의가 필요하다고 생각했습니다. 농수산물 자체가 살아있는 생물이기도 하지만, ‘도매’라는 거래 행위 그 자체도 규모가 인간이 다를 수 있는 한계치로 크고 복잡해서 마치 살아있는 생명체와도 같습니다. 따라서 이것이 담길 건축은 보다 가변적이고 유기적인 하나의 ‘그릇’으로서 작동해야 합니다. 도매시장 건축은 결국 살아 움직이는 거래 생태계를 담아내는 ‘그릇’입니다.
