Urban sprawl and NIMBY

In 1947, when the National Psychiatric Hospital first opened at the foot of Yongmasan Mountain in the east of Seoul, it was a field where several households were farming on the outskirts of Seoul. However, due to the acceleration of urbanization, Junggok-dong was quickly reorganized as a living space for urban residents, and the National Psychiatric Hospital was absorbed into the city, causing conflicts with local residents for 20 years.
